Local Earth Day Happenings!

April 22 is Earth Day. According to the site earthday.org, each year, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

Several Houston activities this weekend are devoted to honoring Earth Day and to bringing greater environmental awareness. You can see a synopsis of these events on our site's calendar.

The Houston Zoo will host Party for the Planet this Saturday and Sunday, where visitors can learn how the protecting the environment saves wildlife, with activities, crafts, music, and more. The event begins at 9am and is included with zoo admission.

The Nature Discovery Center will host its Spring Fling Earth Day Celebration, also this Saturday. There will be guided nature hikes, exhibitors, crafts, activities, and more. The event is 10am - 3pm, and is free and open to the public.

Also, the Platou Community Center in SW Houston will host a free Family Fun Day this Saturday at 10am. These events are held monthly, with this month's theme being Flowers.

The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center will also host an Earth Day Celebration this Saturday. The event promises to be packed with earth-conscience activities, demonstrations, and fun. The event is free and open to the public.

And finally, the Children's Museum of Houston is hosting Go Green Wonderweek, now - April 26. Fun-filled activities are planned throughout the week to discover ways to make a difference and protect the planet.
