When investigating hotels, we always keep family in mind – even when we’re traveling without the children. When visiting a city or a hotel, I always have in the back of mind, “would I bring my children here? How would they like it?”
I am pleased to report that the Loews New Orleans Hotel is child-friendly without being taken over by kids. It is stately without being intimidating. And it’s close to the heart of New Orleans without being smack in the midst of the Bourbon Street revelry.
Location: The Loews New Orleans Hotel is conveniently located near the heart of New Orleans. Note that I said near, not in. This is an important distinction for those of us with families. The hotel is located within walking distance of all the restaurants and fun that make New Orleans unique. Yet, it’s located just far enough from the revelry that it’s perfect for families.
It is also walking distance to the Superdome, the Aquarium of the Americas, the Louisiana Children's Museum, and the street car line.
Child-Friendly Amenities: Because I traveled without my children, I didn't experience the child-specific features hands on. But, I'm told that Loews Hotels feature a Loews Loves Kids program that offers specic children's amenities and programming, such as:
•lending libraries of games,
•special children's menus,
•"Kids Closet" with Fisher-Price toys and gear, books, car seats, potty seats, etc.
•Availability of cribs and child-proofing kits.
•List of nearby tourist attractions catering to children.
•For teens - available lending library of games, music download cards, and DVD players.
I can also vouch for the fact that the rooms are spacious and the beds sleep well. They have a variety of room categories that suit everyone's needs.
Staff: The staff members at Loews were kind and accommodating. I just did not have a bad experience. They willingly accommodated my request for a slightly later checkout, and the concierge was very helpful, taking his time to patiently explain to me how to take the trolley to the zoo. Our room was always clean and inviting, complete with evening turn-down service.
Value: This hotel is admittedly a splurge for families, but the convenience of being close to the center of New Orleans activities and restaurants makes this hotel splurge-worthy.
The larger question is, “Would I stay there again?” Definitely “yes,” – for the great service, proximity, and quality. The Loews New Orleans is a smart choice (but definitely a splurge) for families who want to be in the vicinity of all that is New Orleans.
