5 Tips To Manage A Young Child’s Holiday Excitement

By Sponsored content from Kids R Kids Houston December 16, 2014
For young children, the holidays are a magical time of the year with special desserts, an overflow of gifts, visiting relatives, cooler weather and festive decorations throughout the house and neighborhood. For parents, the holidays are filled with planning, shopping, cleaning, hosting, and the stress that comes along with creating a magical time for family and friends. At times, though, this excitement for a child can make a parent’s life a bit more unbearable.  This season, use these 5 helpful tips to keep the holiday spirits high and tantrums low for the sake of your child and yourself.
  1. Maintain your child’s normal schedule. Keeping regular bedtimes, naptimes, and meal schedules are imperative.
  2. Limit extra snacks, candies and cookies. With generous friends dropping by with baskets of goodies, and multiple school parties, children are apt to consume more sugar than usual. Avoid the energy highs and lows brought on by sugar by limiting your child to a special treat now and again.
  3. Limit shopping trips to a manageable time with built-in breaks. Sure, knocking out every item on your to-do list in a day would be ideal, but not with kids. Divide your trips into shorter increments and be willing to take breaks for playtime with the children.
  4. Contain the toy excitement to one room. Assign one room as the playroom in your house, where all toys are played with and all toys stay.
  5. Keep safety first. Keep your home safe with non-flammable and non-breakable decorations.  Your entire family will be safe in your home and you can relax knowing that your great-grandmother’s heirloom won’t be broken.
