Discovery Green is Houston’s downtown park space. How can I describe it best? It is, quite simply, an urban retreat from the go-go hustle-and-bustle of city life.
Picture it…
- A lake, with mini-sailboats.
- Uniquely designed playground.
- Walking trail.
- Park benches.
- Flowers.
- Fountains.
- Art pieces.
- Restaurants.
- Concert stages.
- A hill for lounging about.
- All this, in one space.
- And it's so clean, too!
Know before you go:
- Limited metered street parking is available around the perimeter of the park. Downtown metered parking is $1.25 per hour, or $6.00 for the day. It is free to park on Sundays, and after 6pm.
- Garage parking is also available.
- When there is an event or if it’s a beautiful weekend day, the park tends to get pretty crowded.
- For a great time, pack a picnic and enjoy the outdoor air. But, if you don’t, there is a casual restaurant on the premises. The food court in the Park Shops is a short two blocks away.
- The park hosts concerts and other special events, as well as fitness activities such as yoga, Zumba, and kid’s fitness classes. Check their calendar for current classes and updates.
- There is a mini-branch of the Houston Public Library on the premises.
- In the winter months, the lake transforms into an ice skating rink.
- Their is a dog park on the premises.
- Kids can run through the fountains, but certain rules apply. Bring dry clothes, a towel, and water shoes.
