American Girl® Store Memorial City - Giveaway!

Out and About with Macaroni Kid

Read on for a chance to win an American Girl prize pack!

Are you a fan of the American Girl? I recently had the unique opportunity to visit the Grand Opening of the all new American Girl Store at Memorial City Mall. I will admit that I wasn't a fan - my daughter wasn't a big fan of dolls in general, and now, as a teenager, she's officially passed the target age of 8-12.

Then I went to the American Girl Store. And I was converted.

Just about everyone even slightly familiar with the franchise knows that there is a doll for almost every period of time, for almost every skin tone and ethnicity, and for almost every ability. American Girl fans know that all of the dolls come with a set of accessories and clothing.

But I personally was amazed at the keen attention to detail. Dolls can have their hair done or their ears pierced. The dolls come with extraordinarily detailed clothing and accessories that match their era (for instance, with VW bug that is sold with the 1970's decade dolls, shown below, come with an AM radio dial, complete with static).

Hearing impaired dolls have hearing aids, and visually impaired dolls have seeing-eye dogs and canes. And it's not "hokey" - the accessories are so realistic that a little girl could truly relate to the doll she purchases.

The store includes the signature Bistro, with a full menu. And, or course, your doll can join your daughter for lunch or desert.

If you've never purchased an American Girl doll, you should know that you will pay for these details. The dolls start at $50, and the all of the the accessories and services are priced separately. The good news is that once the initial investment of the doll is made, you and your daughter can add accessories later. And, if you need to get a sense of whether or not your child will be a fan, you can try one of the many American Girl books or DVD's first.

The store is quite an experience in itself. They offer story time opportunities and special in-store events from time to time. Click here for this month's events.
